BiogasSA has recently completed its first commercial turnkey biogas plant at the Morgan Abattoir in Springs with full operation planned for the middle of 2015. This project has an installed capacity of 0.4MW and will generate approximately 50% of the abattoir’s own electricity needs.
BiogasSA managed to apply for and secure the Eskom SOP rebate for the Morgan Project, providing approximately 30% of the capex of the project. This was the only biogas project in SA to qualify for the rebate, when it became available – unfortunately this was a pilot project for Eskom and they only made 20MW available.
The actual digesters are constructed using the Dutch patented pre-cast and post tensioned concrete panel tanks. The digestate and mixing tanks were cast in-situ concrete.
